Verin Carnival (Ourense)
This ourensano municipality celebrates from 1st to 13th February the “Entroido de Verín”. Declared Party of National Tourist Interest.
Since ancient time, the events that have happened all along the year are reflected in a satirical way during these days. The streets of the town are full of masks and group and float parades for inhabitants and tourists’ enjoyment. It deserves a special mention the Cigarrón, a typical character who announces the beginning of the parties and who goes after everybody who bumps into him to hit them with a whip.
Every day occurs a big event, from Xoves de Compadres (men night) or Xoves de Comadres (women night) to Domingo Corredoiro, time when Cigarrones appear for the first time, or Lunes Fareleiro in which everyone who passes through the village is immersed in a battle of fariña (flour) giving it the nickname of fareleiro.
