The journey towards a sustainable fleet
Eleven years ago, Monbus obtained its first environmental certificates under the international reference UNE-EN ISO 14001 and, since then, it has not ceased its efforts to implement a strategy based on the reduction of the environmental impacts of its activity. With this objective in mind, the company has been updating its vehicle purchasing policy to make it more sustainable and adapted to this new reality.
33 million passengers travelled with Monbus last year, covering more than 56 million kilometres in an increasingly efficient fleet. To this end, Monbus is constantly renewing its fleet, mainly through the acquisition of new vehicles and the removal of the oldest ones.
In particular, in 2018 Monbus acquired 103 new buses, including hybrid and natural gas units for urban services. In addition, among all this volume of incorporations, there are 90 coaches that comply with the EURO VI standard, the most demanding in terms of emissions produced by vehicles. In this way, 44% of the Monbus fleet is already adapted to this environmental regulation. Different urban transport services operated by Monbus, which already have buses of the most efficient categories on the market, deserve special mention. The two King Long E10 buses that run through Talavera de la Reina and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter City Lin 519 that runs through Alcalá de Henares, all of them hybrids, stand out. In the town of Madrid also concentrate 80% of the fleet of CNG vehicles powered by natural gas that Monbus currently has.
