Day of People with disabilities
The third of December International Day of People with disabilities is celebrated. Monbus shows its commitment in order to achieve universal accessibility in its vehicles.
Every third of December, since its declaration in 1992 by the General Assembly of the United Nations, International Day of People with disabilities is celebrated. It is estimated that one in four inhabitants suffer some kind of disability, which makes essential to provide transport services adapted to any type of situation.
Monbus works to improve accessibility conditions in order to guarantee the right of people to move freely, regardless of their physical, mental or sensory condition. Nowadays, half of vehicles of Monbus are accessible for people with reduced mobility. The purchase of new vehicles is made taking into account current laws and the technology available in this area: kneeling-systems, ramps or lifting platforms, the size of the doors and corridors adapted, appropriate signs, wheelchair space, means of restraints.
Customers who need to have access to adapted services have to send a request by email, social networks (twitter and facebook) or through contact section at Monbus website if they want to use interurban routes (minimum two days before). Vehicles used for urban routes are adapted according to current law.
As a consequence of these efforts, Monbus have more accessible vehicles for people with reduced mobility (PRM), as well as, the Universal Accessibility Certification 170.001-2. This certification ensures law enforcement, as well as basic conditions (dalco requirements). Additionally, it forces company to improve its services.
